Natural Skin Care For The 5 Skin Types – Which One Are You?

Everyone’s skin is different, but in general skin falls into one of five different types. Each skin type reacts differently to different natural skin care regimes and treatments, so it’s important to determine what type of skin you have. By following the proper treatment for your skin type, you’ll be sure to have that healthy, radiant skin you’ve always wanted. In this two part series, we’ll cover the five skin types, and then outline a treatment plan for each.

Here are the five skin types:

The way we will test for skin type is to use a clean facial tissue or Kleenex to wipe your face, first thing in the morning after waking.

1. Normal Skin
Those lucky enough to have normal skin usually have the least problems, but still require a normal treatment routine, albeit a minimal one. Normal skin generally does not reveal traces of oil, and will naturally feel vibrant and elastic after the tissue test.

2. Dry Skin
Like normal skin, dry skin does not leave any oily residue on the Kleenex, but unlike normal skin, it may feel dry or tight after wiping. Since dry skin does not hold moisture as well, it can lead to wrinkles and aging earlier than other types.

3. Oily Skin
If your skin is oily, the tissue paper will  have some spots where oil is visible, particularly around the cheeks, nose, and forehead. Oily skin is usually the most problematic and will often have enlarged pores and is prone to acne breakouts.

4. Combination Skin
Combination skin is by far the most common type. If you have combination skin you will notice oil residue primarily from your “T-zone” the T-shaped area of your nose and forehead, while your cheeks and jawline may remain perfectly dry.

5.  Sensitive Skin
Sensitive skin tends to feel dry and tight, and is often easily-irritated or easily-inflamed. If you’ve ever noticed red or scaly areas that itch or tingle, it’s possible you have sensitive skin.

No matter your skin type, there is a treatment for you to keep your skin clean, perfectly hydrated and glowing year-round. Stay tuned for the next installment to see what skin care methods you should adopt for healthy radiant skin.
